A Norfolk Southern spokesperson verified that conductor Louis Shuster was fatally injured early on Tuesday morning.

The authorities stated that a dump truck hit the conductor as a Norfolk Southern train was passing through a crossing at the establishment.

Norfolk Southern is doing everything in its power to assist the conductor’s family and his coworkers.

“Today, we are mourning the loss of a coworker. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly trying period.” the declaration read.

“The company is working with the Cleveland Police Department and Cleveland-Cliffs representatives to confirm the details and learn everything possible about the incident. Further, the company has been in contact with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, SMART-TD union leadership, and Cleveland-Cliffs leadership,” Norfolk Southern added. “More information will be released in coordination with law enforcement as it becomes available.”
