Attention All Drivers,
Due to an impending winter storm expected to impact Pennsylvania from Wednesday night into Thursday morning, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), and the PA Turnpike Commission (PA Turnpike) are advising all motorists to limit travel and exercise extreme caution. Significant vehicle restrictions will be implemented to ensure safety during hazardous conditions.
Weather and Road Conditions
The storm is expected to bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain, leading to icy road conditions. While PennDOT and PA Turnpike crews will pre-treat roadways where possible, drivers should anticipate slick spots, particularly on bridges and ramps. Gusty winds may also cause downed trees and power outages. Please ensure your electronic devices are fully charged in case of emergencies.
Travel Restrictions for Commercial Vehicles
Starting 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 5, and in accordance with Tier 4 restrictions, all commercial vehicles will be banned from I-81 and other major highways in Pennsylvania. These restrictions will be expanded overnight to additional roadways.

Safety Reminders for Drivers
-
Icy Roads: Black ice can be deceptive. If a road looks wet, assume it could be ice.
-
Wind Hazards: High winds can push vehicles, especially empty trailers, off balance.
-
Power Outages: Plan for potential delays at truck stops and rest areas.
-
Carbon Monoxide Risk: Never use a generator, stove, or other gas-powered devices inside your truck for heat. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headaches, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. If you suspect exposure, get fresh air immediately and call 9-1-1.
-
Ice and Snow Removal Law: All vehicles must be cleared of accumulated snow and ice within 24 hours after the storm. Violators face fines of $50, and up to $1,500 if dislodged ice or snow causes injury or damage.
