SIDNEY, OH – A truck driver from Pennsylvania was killed after being hit by lightning while working on his broken-down vehicle on Interstate 75 in Ohio.

Daryl Lewis, 50, was driving a cargo across Ohio on July 6 when his vehicle shattered a universal bolt during a strong storm, according to the Ohio State Patrol.

Daryl’s wife, Tanya Lewis, told WTAE that her husband was attempting to replace the bolt on the driveshaft when lightning struck him.

Troopers said that they were hailed down at the spot by a concerned driver and attempted to treat Daryl until Sidney Fire Department first responders arrived.

Tanya Lewis, who was traveling in the big rig with his father, claimed her 10-year-old son contacted her screaming and weeping as rescue crews were attempting CPR on Daryl.

He was sent to a nearby hospital but died there.

According to his obituary, he worked as a driver for Walshak Trucking in Pittsburgh.
