This Monday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) started operating a commercial vehicle enforcement detail on significant interstates.
“Operation Southern Shield” will be carried out by the Arizona DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force (CVETF) from Monday, February 20, 2023, to Friday, February 24, 2023.
I-10 from Phoenix to the New Mexico state line,
and I-19 from Tucson to the international border is the main focus.
Officers are targeting dangerous driving violations during Operation Southern Shield. The officers are inspecting commercial motor vehicles and orienting drivers on safe and legal operation due to the lower number of crashes involving commercial motor vehicles.
According to Arizona DPS, the blitz will also target non-commercial vehicle drivers who drive recklessly around vehicles.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, the Marana Police Department, the Oro Valley Police Department, and the Tucson Police Department will all lend a hand with Operation Southern Shield.
