Monday afternoon, a FedEx vehicle struck and killed a lady while crossing the South Loop street.
At around 2:20 p.m., a FedEx delivery truck turning right onto Wabash Avenue from Roosevelt Road struck a woman crossing Wabash Avenue in the crosswalk while traveling east.
Police and fire authorities said that the 72-year-old woman was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after she was transferred there after being freed from under the truck.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, she was Marsha Frankel of the South Loop.
No citations have been issued to the 31-year-old truck driver, according to the police.
FedEx issued the following statement: “We send our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the victim of this accident. Safety is our first priority, and we are now collaborating completely with investigating authorities.”
