CLARK COUNTY, ILLINOIS — A tractor-trailer driver was killed in a violent collision with another truck on Interstate 70 in Clark County, Illinois.
Around 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, Illinois State Police arrived at the collision.
According to WCIA, both large trucks were heading in the same direction on I-70 when Claude Watson, 60, of St. Louis, attempted to pass the other vehicle, operated by Duane Jones of Dayton, Ohio. Jones’ vehicle crossed the center line and crashed with Watson as he attempted to pass.
Both trucks drove across the ditch and through a steel fence.
Watson’s vehicle overturned and landed on the driver’s side. Then it caught fire. Watson was declared deceased on the spot.
Jones came to a halt in a neighboring field. He was not hurt, but he did receive a citation for inappropriate lane usage.
